Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)

Advanced Security For Advanced Threats

Back to our content

Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is an advanced method of inspecting and managing network traffic.

Unlike basic packet filtering, which only looks at the header information of packets, DPI delves into the payload (the actual data) of each packet.

This allows DPI to perform a variety of sophisticated functions:

1. DPI can identify different types of traffic (e.g., video streaming, file sharing, web browsing) and manage bandwidth allocation accordingly to ensure optimal network performance.

2. By analysing packet content, DPI can detect and block malware, viruses and other malicious content.

It can also prevent data breaches by identifying and stopping unauthorized data transfers.

3. Organisations can use DPI to enforce acceptable use policies, such as blocking access to certain websites or applications.

4. DPI can prioritise critical applications and services, ensuring they receive the necessary bandwidth for smooth operation.

5. DPI helps in identifying and mitigating network attacks by examining packet content for known attack signatures and patterns.
